Website + Book Cover Design

for author Jennifer Coombs

Jennifer is a counselor and author who needed a cohesive online presence as well as a book cover design for her new book called "Morning Letters."

GOAL

Jennifer requested a book cover design along with a corresponding website. I was also asked to consult on and help create a social media presence.

THE BOOK

The book cover design was the first step in the design process.

A painting that was significant to the author was chosen as the main focal point on the cover.

Fonts and colors were chosen based on the content of the book and the personality of the author.

WEB DESIGN

1.

EXPLORATION & INSPIRATION:

I consulted with Jennifer to find out what she was looking to feature on her new website. I then did research and generated ideas.

QUESTIONS:
  • What are the most important features?

  • How did other authors handle the same things?

  • How to consolidate the features in the best way?

2.

CONTENT NEEDS & ARCHITECTURE:

Based on the information gathered in step 1, I gathered the graphics, pictures & text needed for the site and developed the site architecture. I focused on making the site as consolidated as possible, without a lot of different pages, helping the visitors to easily get information without too many clicks.

HIGH FIDELITY VISUAL DESIGN:

Using the design of the book cover as a starting point for fonts and colors, I developed and finalized the design for each page and built the website within the Wix platform.

SOCIAL MEDIA

In addition to the book cover and website, I helped Jennifer create an online social media presence on Facebook.

I created graphics to be used for the cover image and posts.

I also helped to set up her account and provided some strategic consulting on how to use Facebook as an author.
